There’s no denying that the weather has been very strange for several years and this summer is no exception. Iceland is enjoying a heat wave and unusually (relatively) clear skies. In Ontario we’re having the wettest summer on record. Much cooler and very much wetter than last summer. We’ve had so many major thunderstorms that I have a tool kit handy for fixing the weekly burnouts of electronics. Last winter was also very wet (snow) so I was able to fill the pool with snow melt and rain water. So much rain this summer that my pool is almost 100% rain water and it feels so nice. Silky smooth although it has been a challenge heating the water because of the cloud cover that will appear suddenly and perhaps a downpour that forces me to drain more water. I only have a solar water heater that is manually operated.
So on several days this summer it has been warmer in Iceland than in Ontario. I like this much cooler weather and certainly prefer it over last summer’s unrelenting heat and drought conditions. Not quite the summer that wasn’t of about eight years ago. That summer never saw above 20C and this year we’ve seen 20+C and a whole lotta rain.
So while the Icelander is basking in the rare moment of the high 20′s I’m enjoying a summer of the high 10′s and low 20′s. We always seem to desire what we can rarely have. I guess all is perfect in the world. Well, the weather at least is strangely enjoyable.

I’m sure your weather in Canada is much nicer at times than here in the bay area near San Francisco. I’m referring to the heat, which this past few years has been insane. Iceland still sounds like a dream to me (your blog is aptly named) and I never give up hope that I’ll live there one day – even if only for part of the year. Did you get your tickets yet?

That wet weather I hear about in San Fran is what we’ve been getting up here although ours tends to be violent storms every few evenings. We had yet another major thunderstorm last night.
The heat, I hear you on that, I’m a Viking at heart and don’t handle the heat very well. I’m happier with this wild weather we’ve had this summer. Being in the 70s for a high all summer has been a real treat. Today is a rare day with bright sun all day and 80 (if I can still calculate F from C).
Tickets, oof, that has been a problem. I’ve moved twice this year and can’t seem to get the debts down enough. Catch-22 all around. But I’m close. My blood is really yearning. I’ve never been so certain of a place that I’ve never actually been to as I am about Iceland. I’m not looking with rose colored glasses, I just think my heart belongs there. Most folks go for the ‘dry heat’ in their old age but I’ve been moving toward the colder climates for decades and am ready to make the leap up ‘to 66′. (ish).
and speaking of crazy weather, this past winter was pretty wild too. Lots of snow and ice. People were just miserable but I was loving it. All that insane snow and freezing wind makes me motivated. I think I wouldn’t complain much about the weather in Niceland.
If I could find a brave soul to go with me to Iceland I’d already have been there. Much easier to deal with the crazy prices with two or more people. But the locals here think I’m nuts and so far nobody wants to go with me. grrr.
Hello. I just moved from Miami to New York, a couple of months ago, I know kinda went the other way on that one
So going from Christmas morning in the low 40′s to Christmas morning in the 10′s should be interesting. I will miss the sunshine state for sure
