Eina med öllu / One with everything

One of the important phrases to learn in Iceland is eina med öllu which is one with everything as in a hot dog. A legendary hot dog stand is Baejarins Beztu Pylsur – The Town’s Best Hot Dogs – . But they are everywhere and I hear they are fantastic. But this isn’t about the pylsur / hot dog. This is about the hot dog stands over here in Toronto that are being tossed off the street next weekend for the Grey Cup festivities. It seems that there are big dollars to be made for vendors with thousands of drunken football fans roaming the stadium area. So naturally the city bent over for big corp so they can put up the branded and faceless vendor stands instead of the familiar stands that have dotted the area for a very long time.

thumb minnstheimi Eina med öllu / One with everythingDon Juans is a stand (chip wagon in local parlance) on Front street with a colourful character and a decent dog. So on the biggest weekend of the year for a vendor he’s being pushed off the curb. I’m not much of a connoisseur of the street sausage here in Blandsville but it is the character and colour of certain vendors that I like. You can’t compare a Don Yuans to a big logo’d sterile stand selling plastic perfection.
