Billions and billions of stars spam. (Carl S)
Spam spam spam spam. (Monty P)
My God, it’s full of stars spam (2001 S.O.)
I stopped worrying about spam a long time ago. But yesterday I was asked to track a specific spam. You know the one, get your meds cheap. This was targeted at Canadian consumers but the user that sent it is in the U.S.
The first clue was the sending ’server’, it came from a home pc in Colorado. This is a ‘zombie‘ computer and the user likely doesn’t even know. The person controlling their farm of perhaps thousands or millions of zombies could be from anywhere. The next clue is the link associated with the pretty picture of prescription drugs which pointed to a website of a Polish language newspaper in Toronto. This server was hacked and the link was buried in a hidden directory. The newspaper doesn’t know their server is being used for this. That link in turn pointed to the primary website which has a Honk Kong domain and owner. That server is actually located in Korea. And finally, there is a connection to an owner that loops all the way back to the U.S.
This would be interesting and funny if not for the fact that most of the resources being used are stolen from unsuspecting users that actually pay for their access. Not to mention that the whole thing is bogus, unethical, illegal, and disgusting.
Die spammers die.
