As reported yesterday, Spring has sprung in Toronto and on the old Icelandic calendar it was officially the first day of summer. Tradition says that if you place a pot of water outside and if it has a layer of ice on the first the morning of Harpa then the summer will be a good one.
When I awoke yesterday morning I was greeted by bright sunshine and right away I knew that this was finally the end of winter. It was still brisk outside but the day felt right. I wasn’t fooled by the false starts earlier in the month. Later in the morning I got my daily update from IcelandReview.com and was greeted with the story of Harpa. I thought wow, that is a nice coincidence that our seasons were in sync as they had been all winter (although colder here). We even had the last frost and I can call it summer and winter “froze together”.
Not only that but at nightfall there was a very nice crescent moon and a very bright Venus in close proximity. Yesterday was just right…
