This Jack Handy quote came up one day so I thought I would save it for any wandering Vikings that stumble on this site.

In fact, the first visitors to Iceland were perplexed by the steam that was coming out of the ground. Europeans had never seen that and as such decided to call the place Reykjavík (”Smokey Bay”). And those pesky ‘glow in the dark’ volcanoes….
